So, you want to start cooking with cannabis? Before you get started you’ll need to decarboxylate your weed. This is a crucial part in the process and should not be skipped.

What is decarboxylation?

The decarboxylation process involves applying low heat for an extended period of time to convert THCA (non-intoxicating) into THC. Without this method you edibles will be weaker than with.

It’s important to note that oven temperatures fluctuate so keep an eye on your cannabis making sure to not burn or brown it too quickly.

What you will need:

  • Baking Tray
  • Aluminum foil or Parchment Paper
  • Cannabis

Directions:

1. Set your oven temperature to 225°F and ensure you have a rack on the middle level.

2. Place aluminum foil on the baking tray and lightly crumple it. This will reduce the amount of direct contact between foil and cannabis (foil is hotter than air).

3. Break the cannabis up until it’s roughly the size of a rice grain. Spread the cannabis on the aluminum foil and lightly cover it with another piece of foil. Baked for 45 minutes.

4. After 45 minutes remove the tray and let cool down at room temperature. The cannabis should be a golden brown colour.

5. When the cannabis has cooled, put in a storage container for future use.

From here, you can make cannabutter, oil, tinctures, and more!
